CRICKET GREATS COMING TO WIVELSFIELD On 13th October a group of 80 riders including current and past cricket players will be cycling through Wivelsfield Green on their way to London to complete a charity bike ride raising funds for the PCA Benevolent Fund and Tom Maynard Trust. The ride will include legends such as Marcus Trescothick, Steve Harmison, Geraint Jones among many others. This is the last day of a 5 day ride and takes them from Hove to the Kia Oval so you can imagine how weary they will be. In total they will have cycled 400 miles by the end of the ride and they have left the hardest day until last to really challenge them. With tired muscles they have opted for an earlier first break on the final day and that takes them past the Wivelsfield Green cricket ground, and they have asked to call in! This is a big honour for the village and we want to make them as welcome as we can. It is expected the riders will come through in 3 waves from about 8am (Note: this is earlier than originally thought, as the cyclists now have to set off earlier.) It will be a great opportunity to meet these players; have photos taken and get autographs. They are keen to raise extra funds and so there will be donation buckets around.WGCC will provide refreshments for the riders and there will also be teas / coffees, bacon rolls and cake etc, available for spectators to purchase. Please put this date in your diary and come along for the morning.Have a look at the riders’ website http://www.thepca.co.uk/big-bike-ride-2.htmlas they aim to reach their target of £150,000.
