Woman hopes to reunite family with lost memories

A Haywards Heath woman is hoping to trace a family after finding an envelope of photos and news cuttings behind some cabinets in her kitchen.

Carla Spear, who lives in Pinewood Way, Haywards Heath found the items after having her kitchen re-fitted.

She said: “In the process of taking out the old kitchen the workmen found a brown envelope that had fallen behind the unit and got stuck behind the pipes.”

Carla would like to return the items to the family.

“There is a Haywards Heath and Balcombe address, along with a phone number but these are no longer in use,” said Carla.

She has lived in the house since 2011 and added that the address on the jiffy bag was Troymed, Balcombe and had the name Mr and Mrs Eldergill on the front.

She said: “When the builders found the envelope having taken out the units I was amazed. To have been hidden behind these units for what must have been years and found now is incredible.

“I would like to trace the family and reunite them with this envelope and its contents as these photos are very personal and may hold some memories.”

There was also a newspaper article from the Rossendale Express dated, Wednesday, August 6 1997 and shows an elderly couple celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

It says: “Ex-insurance Agent’s Golden Pay-out”. The man is John Walsh who met Catherine of Kiln Terrace, Stacksteads in Lancashire. They were married in 1937 at St Peter’s RC Church, Newchurch. John was an anti-aircraft gunner in London’s blitz in the second world war. They have 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.”

The envelope includes: a receipt from Olan Mills; dated February 2, 1999 with the Pinewood Way address on it. The picture looks to be a photo shoot of a woman possibly in her 20s; a photo of a child and written on the back is ‘To Grandma and Grandad Eldergill. Jorday aged 16 months’; two young children on a sofa. Written on the back is Adam and Jason, May 1997, 5 months and 22 months; the same baby aged five months on the same sofa in 1997 and a school photo with Michael Hardman, St Josephs Stacksteads, Christine on the back.
