Woman trains in a new career in memory of mum

“My mum made it clear that she didn’t want a religious ceremony, so when I was looking around I had a light bulb moment,” said Joanna Warrington.

Single mum of three children Joanna had previously worked as a teacher and childminder.

She said: “Funeral celebrancy combines everything I am passionate about. I love meeting local people, finding out about their lives and writing a eulogy to their life – a personal, meaningful tribute that truly celebrates their life. I believe this is what a funeral should be about.

“I am extremely passionate about what I now do – it’s the best career ever and I feel so privileged to be doing it.”

Her mother, Cynthia Dakin, was an artist whose work was often mistaken for Lowry’s.

“My mum would laugh if she knew what I am now doing,” Joanna said. “She would say ‘you’ve had so many different careers whatever next’. But she would be so proud that her paintings are on my funeral stationery and generally used to promote my business.”
