Yellow streak of success

The Warninglid village hall booking secretary, Graham Copley, strode the 60 miles from London to Brighton.

He started early on the Saturday at 9:33am in The Old Deer Park in Richmond.

The most difficult part was after the halfway point, after midnight. Feeling quite sleepy, with an achy left knee, made that the descent down to the Ardingly Reservoir footbridge seem to take forever. Brighton seemed an impossible distance away. Concentrating on just getting to the next rest stop made the assent on the other side much easier. Putting his feet up for 15mins, at the Ardingly rest stop, made the 7.5 miles to Wivelsfield look fairly feasible. On the way to Wivelsfield the birds started to sing and the sun came up. Brighton became a definite possibility. Further on finishing within 24 hours looked within reach. The remaining kilometres just counted themselves down.

He passed the finish line at 9:03am, on the Sunday, to many cheers, with a time of 23.5 hours, putting him in the top third.

Nearly a quarter of the participants did not get to the end.
