Events in open countryside

I’m surprised by the reaction of Georgina Humphreys to the lack of toilet facilities at the recent Children’s Safari (letters, August 16).

Bedelands nature reserve is an area of open countryside owned by MSDC. Like most countryside, it has never been provided with ‘toilet facilities’. So far as I’m aware, this has never bothered other visitors.

The annual Children’s Safari has been running successfully for many years. During that time it has been consistently enjoyed by the vast majority of local people, since they return year after year to this popular free attraction.

We have never provided refreshments of any kind at any of our Bedelands events. It is surely the responsibility of individual parents to ensure that they take along an adequate supply of water and snacks for their children, whenever they venture out of the town into the open countryside.”
