In response to the letter to The Mid Sussex Times from Haywards Heath Labour Party’s Greg Mountain hoping Haywards Heath Town Day would be a tremendous success, I understand where the Haywards Heath Town Council is coming from in saying ‘no’ to political party representation on the day.
Greg Mountain, however, has a strong point when he states the importance of the political parties being in the community.
A way forward is to do away with the confrontational ‘them and us’ attitude in the party political system and to engage with people to hear and be heard as we discuss the future we want to live in.
Coming together in community to respectfully share views, ideas, learning from each other has much power within it. You never know, we could even see a time when we get beyond the unrepresentative first past the post system and everyone has their voice heard in creating the way we want to live and be.
