LETTER: Hospital history

For anyone interested in the history of Haywards Heath, the Guided Walk of St Francis Hospital (now Southdown Park) led by Joe Hughes on Saturday 17th September was a real treat.

From the hospital opening in 1859 to its demise in 1995, the history of the hospital, patents and staff is fascinating.

Joe shared his vast knowledge and brought the history of the building and patients to life. It was a really enjoyable walk.

It was a shame it was not more widely advertised. I just happened upon a post on HHG, otherwise I would have missed a very interesting and informative walk into part of Haywards Heath’s history.
