LETTER: Money could be better used

This is an open letter sent to The Rt Hon David Cameron (Prime Minister) and The Rt Hon George Osborne (Chancellor of the Exchequer).

Yet another useless Quango.

The Government in 2012 said it would abolish 204 quangos by 2015 saving at least £2.6 billion. Now before one even considers voting, one should look at the real costs to the public purse. For example in Sussex - for salaries alone:

The PCC, £85,000 a year; Chief Executive, £84,642 a year; Chief Finance Officer, £81,760 a year; Head of Engagement, £71,028 a year.

Total £322,430 - and for what?

On top of the £322,430 there are 17 other bodies on the payroll, the cost of which is unknown - why?

If one considers the true value of such a quango against the needs of the NHS nurses and junior doctors and the overall running of the NHS, the formation of such a quango is, to me, obscene and a totally useless waste of money. Added to this, police forces are compelled by funding cuts to reduce officer numbers at a time when the safety of the country is most at risk.

Finally when one considers that just for Sussex the cost is £322,430, plus the unknown figure for additional staff, multiply this throughout the country and it must run into millions of pounds which could be better used.
