LETTER: No blanket for free parking proposed

I have just read Richard Cherry’s response (Middy letters 20/8/15) to my letter of August 6 in which I supported ‘limited’ free parking in the town centre to help the small shopkeepers of Burgess Hill.

I was surprised to see that Councillor Cherry took up an argument against ‘blanket’ free parking which was not what Labour and UKIP have been advocating.

It is ‘limited’ free parking of a 2 or 3 hour period that they have both been calling for and I am very much aware that ‘blanket’ free parking could end up with parking spaces being taken by rail commuters and not the shoppers we would wish to encourage. It is ‘limited’ free parking that would help the small shopkeepers and could lead to fewer empty shops in Burgess Hill.
