LETTER: Sewage smell problem still not rectified

I read with interest your article on “ Restaurant Owner’s Fear Over Street Stench” (Middy May 5).

In particular the comments attributed to Councillor Anne Jones.

I wrote to Councillor Jones on 15th February, pointing out the problem of the smell of sewage and the associated effect on public health of vehicles driving through the flow of liquid thereby spraying pedestrians on the footpath. In her capacity as Burgess Hill’s representative on West Sussex County Council I asked Councillor Jones to take ownership of the problem.

At the same time I raised the matter with Mid Sussex District Council’s Leader Gary Wall.

Three months have passed since Councillor Jones was made aware of the matter and the problem has not been rectified!

In addition Councillor Jones admits that the problem has been in existence since before Christmas!

It appears that our councillors are more concerned with political gesturing than applying any urgency in dealing with the real world problems of the community.
