The closure announcement for Central Sussex College in Haywards Heath is indeed depressing and a stark reminder of just what the increasing privatization and pursuance of political dogma is doing to our Health, Education, Police, Transport and Local Government services.
Within some 20 years the successful Haywards Heath Sixth Form College has descended to a Central Sussex College facing closure in 2017, 7 years after spending £30M for a grandiose redevelopment.
This illustrates only too clearly that our money is not safe with organisations who squander it and then look around for some other ‘white elephant’ use. Is this yet another example of the mis-management seen in the NHS?
Beware all academies, new and aspiring, when the governors find that funds have run out. Central Sussex College in the centre of Haywards Heath might have been the right location but to change it into a primary/secondary academy when all the new estates are on the town’s periphery means ‘watch out Warden Park and Oathall - someone else is after your purse’!
