LETTER: Thrilled to read stories about plaque in Haywards Heath

A friend has kindly sent me some cuttings from the Mid Sussex Times, with articles about a Plaque having been erected in The Broadway, Haywards Heath, honouring Commando a WW2 Pigeon.

I was thrilled to read these, as Sid Moon, who bred, owned and trained Commando, was my Grandfather. We have a photograph of both Commando and the Dicken Medal on our lounge wall. Madga’s is obviously where Broadley’s used to be and I remember it well, because I lived in Haywards Heath until my marriage in 1962. I also remember Mr. Bert Anscombe, who worked at Broadley’s. In fact he attended our wedding over 52 years ago!! Sadly I do not remember his daughter, Val (now Botting), who contributed one of the articles in your newspaper. My Husband John and I will certainly pay a visit to Haywards Heath shortly to see the Plaque - I know both my Mother and Grandfather would be very proud and thrilled that Commando has been remembered in this special way.
