Another month, another Community Day in Pokemon GO, the augmented reality game that lets you catch the collectable creatures out in the real world.

As usual, this month’s event has a featured Pokemon, and a number of other perks available to players who take part.

Here’s everything you need to know about it:

What is August’s featured Pokemon?

The star of each Community Day is a featured Pokemon, which will spawn in the wild much more often than it normally would while the event is in progress.

In August that Pokemon is Magikarp, a fish-like Water-type creature first found in 1996’s Pokemon Rdd and Blue.

Chimchar will appear to players much more frequently during the Community Day, but there will also be a chance to encounter and capture a Shiny version of the Pokemon too.

Unlike the relatively common, ‘standard’ version though, these will be rare.

Magikarp? Seriously?

Magikarp is considered a bit of a joke in the Pokemon universe. A floundering fish that can do nothing more than splash its opponents, in its base form the creature is essentially useless.

But hold on to it, train it up, and it can evolve into Gyarados, a legendary dragon Pokemon with a devastating move set.

That dynamic is being referenced through August's Community Day too, with player able to evolve Magikarp during the event or up to two hours afterward to get a Gyarados that knows Aqua Tail.

But it will take quite a bit of Candy to evolve Magikarp into Gyarados, so you'll need to Complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks to earn additional Magikarp Candies.

When does the Community Day take place?

This August’s Community Day runs on 8 August, and despite being called a Community ‘Day’, the time-frame of the event is much shorter.

It will take place from 11am to 5pm local time.

What else is happening?

On top of increased Pokemon spawns, you’ll be able to take advantage of a few other bonuses during August’s Community Day.

First, you’ll earn triple the normal amount of Catch Stardust, and incense activated during the event will last for three hours.

There’ll also be a special one-time-purchase August Community Day Box, featuring 30 Ultra Balls, an Elite Charged TM, six Star Pieces, and an Incense.

And finally, for just £1, you’ll be able to access the Community Day–exclusive Special Research story called 'Making a Splash', in which you follow Professor Willow as he learns about Magikarp and its epic Evolution journey.
