Athletics Team Reach National Finals

Seven athletes from Burgess Hill School for Girls represented Sussex at the National Finals at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on 24th June 2015.

The girls previously qualified in 1st or 2nd place in their respective events, and also achieved the National qualifying standard. The standard was extremely high with stiff competition in all of the events. 

The following girls gained qualification for the Nationals: Shannon Maywood (Year 6) – U12 High Jump; Lucy Meekings (Year 7) – U13 Shot Putt and Javelin; Nancy Williams (Year 8) – U13 200 metres; Olivia Hampshire (Year 8) – U14 High Jump; Isatou Magrin (Year 8) – U14 300 metres; Isatou Magrin, Sophie Binns, Nancy Williams and Tia Homer (Year 8) – 4 x 100 metres relay.

Miss Suzy Clapp, Head of PE, said “The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and gained valuable experience competing at a high level.  Congratulations to Lucy Meekings who finished in 4th place in the Shot Putt and 7th place in the Javelin, and Nancy Williams who ran superbly to gain a place in the final of the 200 metres finishing in 6th place. The Relay Team did extremely well to gain a place in the final and ran a personal best time of 55.87 to finish in 6th place. The girls should be extremely proud of their performances – this really was a significant achievement.  Well done everyone!”
