Battling Amy goes out to the winner inBritish Isles event

National ladies bowls champion Amy Truran had some tough draws representing England in the Women’s British Isles Championships in Glasgow last week.

In the preliminary round she was level 12-12 with Jess Williams of Wales after 14 ends but finally cruised away to triumph 21-14 and book a semi final clash with favourite Lorna Smith of Scotland.

In a truly excellent match, Truran led 17-14 after 23 ends but could not hold on and conceded the only three of the match on end 29 to finally go out 18-21. Smith, who previously represented South Africa, went on to win the title by beating Jersey’s Lindsey Greechan 21-16.

Back in Sussex at the weekend Truran’s rink won by three shots in the Johns Trophy at Popes Mead but could not save Sussex from a four-shot defeat to Berkshire.
