Buress Hill seconds build on last week’s win with hard fought victory

The next score came as winger Adam Mayes picked up an attempted clearance from Crowborough to run in under the posts again converted 14-0. Hill looked comfortable at this point but soon found themselves defending their line as they failed to take the kick off cleanly and three penalties later though that they had won the mini battle as Jeremy Coote won the ball at the breakdown only for Hill to drop the ball behind their own line allowing Crowborough to pounce on the ball and score. The restart saw Hill attack with vigour as they dominated, seemingly at will the backs making 20 metres only to fail at the last with passes being dropped. One of these led to the next try as Coote forced himself over unconverted 19-5.

Half time saw two vets come on the field with both Adam Lane and Nick Maple playing there first rugby in 12 months adding experience and aggression to the breakdown, this soon paid off as scrum half Jon Maple fed his older brother Nick only for him to be held up just short the ball however was fed wide for Mayes to score his second try converted . 26-5. Hill went through a quiet ten minutes next as mistakes crept into the game and frustration led to Prop Darren Coulton received a red card reducing Hill to 14 . This seemed to enthuse Hill and mistakes disappeared as structure entered Hills game , the first benefit of this was replacement prop Barry Skelhorn crashing over 31-5. Two minutes later he found himself on the end of another scoring pass this time converted 38-5. Hill kept their composure and continued to dominate with Captain Jon Maple throwing a dummy to stroll over 43-5. Last try of the day came for flyhalf Tyrall who along with Coote had been outstanding all game 48-5.

Two wins from two games gives Hill the start they were after for the season and next week they take on Hastings and Bexhill with all three Hill teams playing at poveys close.
