Burgess Hill Runners held their Annual Awards Night and AGM at the Hassocks Hotel on Wednesday evening.

A superb turnout of almost 100 members saw cups and shields being presented for a variety of achievements and where the standards were higher than ever. The Mens and Ladies Championships, awarded for the best performances against other club members over a specified range of races throughout the year went to Paul Sargent and Sharona Harrington respectively and were well deserved. Sunday was a busy day from a racing perspective. 23 Runners made their way to Shoreham for the ’Foxes 5’, the latest race in the West Sussex Fun Run League and in amongst another good set of results for the club was a fabulous first race win for James Collins in 27 mins 23 seconds. James was backed up by Darryl Webb (5th, 28.29), James Sorbie (41st, 32.37), Alan Fry (43rd, 32.42) and Stuart Condie (62nd, 34.19). Katia Hannah led the ladies home in 41.35, supported by Emma Fernandez (41.44), Marie Carey (42.59) and Gill Berglund (44.04). As we approach peak mileage weeks in the Spring Marathon training period several club members made the trip to Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey for the ‘Spitfire 20’ and ‘Tempest 10’ races run partly on the ‘Top Gear’ test track. In the 20 mile event, Mark Nicholls came 31st in a strong field in an excellent 2hrs 16 mins 42s followed by Neil Grigg (2.21.57), Jon Boxall (2.47.37), Neil Dawson (3.21.14), Nick Dawson (3.21.14), Hannah Brett (3.46.23) and Allie Wood (3.55.09). Husband and wife team Jay and Caz Wadey completed the 10 mile event in personal bests of 1.46.58. Finally, Cranleigh Runners popular 15/21 mile marathon preparation events were also held on Sunday, Angie Smith completing the 15 mile race in 2.47.11 and Elona Smith the 21 mile event in 3.59.34 .
