On Wednesday night the club hosted their annual “Blackcap Handicap”, a 5 mile race from Ditchling Beacon to Blackcap and back but with a staggered start based on the recent race results of the competing runners.

Kevin Walker pushed ahead of his handicap to finish 1st with Matthew Cawthra and Daniel Belton just short of snatching the trophy in 2nd and 3rd.

On Saturday, Steve Roberts was race director at the club’s league race “The Downland Dash”, another 5 mile race, this time starting and finishing at Downlands School in Hassocks.

The BHR troops mucked in assisting with the course, marshalling, handing out water and generally supporting both the 5 mile adult race and the 1 mile kids race.

There were also a handful of the club’s runners who couldn’t resist taking part themselves. Usual suspects Gary Woolven and Fay Roberts continued their impressive season of running finishing first BHR male (32:40) and first BHR female (40:20) respectively. Several of the club’s juniors took part in the 1 mile race. Boden Duffy led them in with a superb time of 4:36 (3rd place overall) followed by Toby Bradford (4:53), Lara Holt-Wickens (5:34), Martha Kibble (5:43), Edward Connolly (5:48), Joshua Bristow (5:49), Laura Cooper (5:50), Elena Croft (6:19), Jack Turner (6:27), Torri Duffy (6:28), Niamh Bennett (6:29), Josh Beckett (6:29), Niamh Harding (6:35), Georgie Wadey (6:36), Lily Craigs (6:47), Benjamin Bristow (7:13), Seb Bennett (7:22), Amber Bird (7:59), Lois Roberts (7:59) and Reece Roberts (9:06).

On Thursday Steve Roberts, Dave Oldfield, Steven Gray and Jay Wadey took part in the Whitemans Green 5k whilst on Sunday Mark Nicholls added another Marathon to his list of achievements with the North Sea Beach Marathon in Denmark. Actually totalling 27 miles Mark took on the sandy beach to finish in a brilliant time of 3:53:39 (12th place overall).
