Hills and mud made the 5k and 10k a much more difficult challenge than road races of these distances, but it didn’t stop the club’s hardcore runners from putting in some serious effort. Linda Russell was the first to complete the 10k with a time of 1:10:10, followed by Helen Pratt (1:22:04) and Allison Willcox (1:40:11). In the 5k Jane Harle finished in 56:43.

The club hosted their annual “Downslink Relay” on Saturday and 6 teams made up of either 3 or 6 runners competed over the 37 mile event on the Downslink trail. For the first time, the club had a guest team from the local Clair parkrun. The winning team, in a superb time of 4 hours 49, was made up of Matt Cawthra, Neil Dawson and Andy Murrell.

Finally, the notorious “Gatliff Marathon” attracted three of the club’s members on Sunday. A tricky 50km (31 mile) run lay ahead for Nick Dawson, Karen Harvey and Steve Roberts. Nick and Karen were happy to complete this mammoth distance whilst unfortunately Steve had to withdraw due to injury after a valiant 17 miles.
