Batting first, Bede’s amassed a very impressive 179 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs. Main contributors to the total were Fynn Hudson-Prentice with a well compiled 51, Raynaldo Estwick with 25 and Charlie Hodgson with a quick fire 35 not out from just 16 balls. A second wicket partnership from Estwick and Hudson-Prentice of 74 laid the foundations for a large total however some tight bowling in the middle overs prevented Bede’s from scoring over 200, which at one point looked to be on the cards.

A final flurry in the last 5 overs from Charlie Hodgson ensured Bede’s posted a very competitive score. Neil Persaud, a very skilful off spinner, then opened the bowling for Bede’s and bowled his 4 overs for just 20 runs and licked up 2 wickets, but some very aggressive batting from Lancing kept them in the hung going into the last 10 overs. Elliott Hooper ensured that Lancing’s run rate was always increasing however, taking 3 for 22 off of his 4 overs. In the last 5 overs, Lancing needed to score at 12 an over and this proved too much; with a very skilful final over from captain Hudson-Prentice, they fell 18 short on 161 for 7.

Bede’s Director of Cricket, Alan Wells said ‘This victory added to another very impressive season from Bede’s 1st XI who won every one of their 50 over matches; this included victories over Eton, Charterhouse, Hurst, Eastbourne College and Brighton College. This is now the second consecutive season they have gone undefeated in the longer format of the game’.
