Set to score 208 to seal a win they fell 55 short.

Bognor having won the toss scored freely at the beginning of their innings with Max Ashmore and Ryan Maskell putting on 87 for the first wicket. However runs became harder to score as the innings progressed with Ansty skipper Glenn Anson taking 5-77 off his 18 overs.

Ansty’s reply got off to a reasonable start but as the required run rate increased wickets fell at regular intervals. Lucas Barker top scored with 43 but was adjudged LBW with the score on 110. Henry Smethurst and Leo Anderson contributed 22 each with 17 from Harry Towler and 12no from Anson. For the home side Joe Ashmore took 5-45 off 20.2 overs

The 2nd XI continued their good form with a defeat by 103 runs of basement club Rye. Having been asked to bat Ansty’s openers Chris Barnes (73) and James Wilson (51) piled on the runs in a partnership of 117 that ended with Wilson being bowled by James Smeed. Tommy Green (41) continued with Barnes and saw a further 32 on the board for the 2nd wicket. The run rate then slowed somewhat but a breezy 30 from Jack Palser saw the home side declare on 257-9 off just 41.4 overs.

Rye’s innings started disastrously losing 3 wicket for just 13. Two more fell at 56 but an innings of 38 by Olly Rhys-Jones held up the home attack’s quest for victory. A last wicket stand of 32 was finally broken by Alex Beard for another good win.

3rd XI

Top scorers for the 3rd XI were Ken Chapman (44) and Tom Peberdy (33) as Ansty set a target of 173 for visitors St James to chase. Justin Hall took five of the home sides batting for 58.

St James never really looked troubled by that target and reached it with 5 wickets down with 3 overs remaining.

Nine man Roffey were asked to bat first and managed just 104. Rob Targett and Peter Fowles each took 3 wickets.

Rob Targett, once again, took a liking to the bowling and struck 53 not out as the visitors overhauled the target set by Roffey for a win by 3 wickets.
