The 19-year-old, who was born in Haywards Heath, signed a junior professional contract with the club earlier this year.

Hudson-Prentice, who is an all-rounder, has been with Sussex since the age of ten spoke of his delight to sign his first pro deal.

He said: “I was ecstatic to sign my deal. It’s been a long journey over the past nine years going up through the various age groups at the club.

“At the end of last year I managed to get an appearance in the first-team and I’m delighted that the coaching staff here offered me a one-year deal.

“I think it’s gets tougher as you get older. When I was younger I would look up to the under-17 players who were getting to train and play with the Sussex side.

“When you get to the last year at the academy you begin to think what might happen but thankfully I was offered this deal.

“I know that I still have a lot of work to do but it’s a great opportunity for me.”

The Haywards Heath youngster will now team up with the full squad and join the likes of Tymal Mills, Luke Wright, Ajmal Shahzad and Michael Yardy.

And he spoke of his delight at being able to join those players in training and on match days.

He added: “There are some really great players at this club and it has attracted some of the best over the years.

“I mean Ajmal, Luke and Michael have all played for England and it will only benefit my game playing alongside these guys.

“The aim for me now is to try and get in the side which I know will not be easy as we have such a talented squad of players.”
