Jethro Menzies and Dave Woodfield were the Heath heroes but Jonny Phelps took the winning wicket on his 17th birthday.

Heath opted for first strike on the usually flat wicket at Deaks Lane but were in deep trouble at 63-6 before the tail wagged a little.

David Woodfield (39) was mainly responsible for giving the bowlers something to bowl at although Ansty must have fancied their chances of passing a meagre 113.

But they were in even bigger trouble at 30-6 before again the tail proved a little more resilient.

Sam Palser top scored with 28 but Phelps (3-36) and Jethro Menzies (5-28) had the upperhand with the ball as the hosts succumbed for 104 in the 33rd over.

Joe Maskell took his first senior five-wicket haul before Jack Simpson and Tom Trowbridge dispatched struggling Lewes Priory with the bat in an extremely one-sided game of cricket at St John’s Park.

Burgess Hill won by 10 wickets after Lewes, having shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, fell for just 129 after being put in.

The visitors moved to 36-0 through father and son pairing Andrew and Charlie Hartridge before the latter was trapped leg before by Maskell (5-31). And with Jack Simpson weighing in with 4-31, the innings folded for 129.

A heavy shower had sent the players rushing from the field at 102-8 and early tea was taken.

With the weather likely to play a hand, Hill openers Simpson (66no) and skipper Tom Trowbridge (57no) wasted no time sealing victory on just 14 overs.

Lindfield seized their chance to move back to the top as they easily brushed aside the challenge of Keymer & Hassocks at Adastra Park.

The hosts were bowled out for 123 before Joe Newcombe’s unbeaten 78 swept the visitors to an eight-wicket win.

The other match was abandoned with Crawley 18-0 chasing a formidable Hellingly total of 250-5 that owed much to George Hook (97) and Greg Devlin (56).
