Kesh earns South African call

Cuckfield all-rounder Keshav Maharaj will be playing his last game for the club at Hastings this Saturday after being called up by Cricket South Africa.

The overseas player has been selected to attend a spin camp in India but before that must return to South Africa to undergo a fitness assessment in Pretoria.

His sudden departure means he will miss Cuckfield’s last five Sussex League games and also their 20/20 semi final at Eastbourne on Sunday.

League 1st XI skipper James Robinson said: “It’s a great shame to lose him at this point in the season as he has been an integral part of our team. But obviously this is a great opportunity for him and we wish him all the best as he continues to pursue his career as a professional cricketer.

“We are currently exploring options for a replacement but clearly it is awkward timing and may not prove possible.”
