Fresh off a week of international fixtures Guernsey elected to bat first but soon found themselves 13 for 2 thanks to the opening burst from Shane Wilson-Yelverton (2 for 31).

Skipper Ben Ferbrache (77) and Ben Fitchet (37) provided impetus to the visitors innings until Simon Shivnarain (4 for 67) and overseas player Tem Hodson (2 for 53) struck back for Lindfield. Batting at 10, Will Fazakerley (21 not out) nudged the islanders total to a competitive 190 all out.

In reply, the hosts got off to an unsteady start losing their openers early to the bowling of Fazakerley (2 for 36). However, this just brought Kiwi Hodson to the wicket who finally contributed with the bat following a poor run of form.

Despite losing regular partners, Hodson cruised to a majestic 93 off just 115 balls and found able support from a disciplined Kevin Chamberlain (24 not out off 108 balls).

However, with wickets falling to the impressive Oliver Newey (4 for 21) Lindfield found themselves with just too much to do as the light faded.

Former 1st XI skipper James Pearce commented after the league double-header over the Bank Holiday, “It’s been a weekend of ups and downs.

“Although it is fair to say Saturday was a shambles, things have improved against international opposition today.

“On a personal note, my own game has been disappointing but I’m working hard and hoping my efforts will bear fruit later in the summer.”

With 13 points Lindfield jump over Pagham at the bottom of Division 2.
