Lindfield topple the leaders

The visitors batted first and ground their way to 176-6 in 53 overs . They owed much to the later batsmen after slipping to 73-5.

Vincent Lawson hit an unbeaten 44 and was well supported by Phil Weir (23) and Kingsley Morris (32no).

The modest target looked within reach as Ed Coombs (22) and James Whybrow (39) helped the hosts to 82 but then Steve Pearce really got to work and claimed 5-17 in nine overs to send them plunging to 138 all out.

Burgess Hill are second after snatching victory from the jaws of defeat against Rottingdean at St John’s Park.

After skipper Tom Trowbridge elected to take first strike, Hill looked well placed at 64-1 but then George Ledden trapped him leg before and then struck in the same manner with the next ball to remove Ian Simpson.

When Nathan Cooper edged behind in the next over for a comfortably made 30 and then Ledden (6-23 in 17) bowled Aaron Barnes through the gate with the first ball of his next over to complete a hat-trick, Hill were rocking at 66-5.

Things did not improve much after that until at 96-8 tailenders Matt Charman (16) and Hugh Warmisham (17no) offered Karl Boffey (32no) invaluable support to take the score to 166-9.

Rottingdean crept to 80-2 in reply and despite the required run rate edging up, they still looked favourites until Ian Simpson (5-24 in 10.3) joined brother Jack (4-27 in 16) to send them crashing to 120 all out in the 43rd over.

There was disappointment for Haywards Heath as they declared early at Southgate Park and then could only watch as Crawley’s Harry Chaudhary hit 92 out of the first 106 runs to make light of the chase and set up a five-wicket win.

Earlier there were centuries from Ben Francis (57) and Callum Smith (54) in a Heath total of 182-7 in 49.4 overs. Jonny Phelps (31) helped Francis put on 59 for the first wicket and then took three Crawley wickets.

Keymer & Hassocks had little trouble disposing of 10-man Lewes Priory at Adastra, where the visitors would have been in dire straits had it not been Richard Eborn (69) and Jacob Lee (33). In the end they were bowled out for 149 as Michael Poole grabbed 7-44 in 20 overs.

Although John Price had to retire hurt on 20, Hassocks got home by seven wickets in the 33rd over, with Poole completing a great day by finishing unbeaten on 31.
