David Lea, who has impressed with the bat this season, came on and took 4 for 28 in 5.3 overs to bring hope to the visitors. With the fall of wickets, the run rate slowed and St. James limped to 212 all out in 38.3 overs. Chris Maynard took 2 for 22 and Jack Pierpoint, Jonathan Smith and Barnaby Grout took a wicket apiece. From looking at chasing 250+ Lindfield could be well pleased with their fielding efforts.

Unfortunately, that is where the good news ended for Lindfield as the home side's bowling showed its class. Despite David Lea (31) and Sean Sage (14) getting the innings off to a good start, Lindfield's batting bankers didn't perform as the middle order struggled.

Jake Smith (4 for 13) and Dominic Ashton (2 for 25) created much of the mayhem, and the visitors' innings petered out for 104 all out with 15 overs to spare. It was an uncharacteristic showing from a side that had performed well throughout the truncated season.

Captain Adrian Whear said: "I'm so proud of my young team this season. We've really had some great fun in the August Cup but were undone by a superior St. James team today.

"Our youngsters can take great credit from their achievements this summer and will be knocking on the door of the second team next year."
