Palser and Smith shine as Ansty beat Rottingdean

Jack Palser and Richard Smith were the stars of the show Ansty beat Rottingdean by 72 runs.

Visitors Rottingdean won the toss at Ansty and asked the home side to bat.

Ansty lost their first wicket off the second ball of the match, that of Tom Woodhall. Jon Young joined James Whybrow and this pair added 58 for the second wicket. This stand ended with Whybrow being run out, after calling for a quick single, for 23. Harry Towler then joined Young but the latter was caught for 32 and Ansty were 66-3. Richard Smith also returned to the pavilion for a duck and Towler fell just one run later for 23. Leo Anderson hit 36 valuable runs along with an outstanding 50 from Jack Palser and 10 runs from Sam Palser, Ansty reached 196-9. Mohammed Islam took 3-32 for the visitors.

Rottingdean’s reply began as badly as the home side’s innings did, losing a wicket without a run on the board. Mark Grantham and Mohammed Islam saw the score to 44 but when Islam was out for 13 wickets began to fall at regular intervals and 44-2 became 72-6 and then 84-8. Bernard Thys hit an enterprising 42 in a ninth wicket stand of 29 with Michael Jones (1) but when Thys was last out, caught brilliantly by that man Jack Palser, Rottingdean were all out for 124. Richard Smith took four wickets and Glenn Anson three.
