The course follows downland tracks up the long climb to the top of Trundle Hill, circles the top and then there is a mad downhill dash to the finish for a total of 6.5 miles.

First home was Paul Sargent in an excellent third place overall and first of the WSFRL competitors to finish in 40mins 15secs. James Collins was also in the top 10, finishing seventh in 41.57, with Jason Collett 13th in 43.05.

Sharona Harrington led home the ladies in 51.57 for 125th place.

Meanwhile, on Saturday club member Darren Chilcott took on the London2Brighton Challenge. He completed the challenging and undulating route in 14hrs 57mins, reaching the finish at Brighton Racecourse just as the sun was setting.

Starting in Richmond-Upon-Thames, there are several picturesque miles along the Thames before the route heads south into the suburbs of London, then on through the heart of Surrey and Sussex, over the South Downs at Plumpton and towards the finish line in Brighton. The route is one-third on roads and two-thirds off road on footpaths and bridleways. It covers 100km and a total of 1,400 metres of ascent.

Darren’s family, friends and fellow Burgess Hill Runners provided magnificent support along the way, either by running a few miles with him or popping up along the route with a friendly smile and words of encouragement.

In completing the challenge, Darren raised more than £3,000 for the Disabilities Trust and it was particularly heart-warming to see the delight on the faces of his supporters from Ernest Kleinwort Court who came to the halfway point at Tulleys Farm to show their appreciation and wave Darren on his way.
