Skipper Tom Trowbridge had no hesitation in electing to bat when he won the toss .

He and fellow opener Jack Simpson had few alarms against the opening Steyning seam attack with both finding the boundary at regular intervals punishing anything short or over pitched making the most of a fast outfield . Simpson was the first to fall as Steyning took the pace off the ball but not before the opening stand had reached 112 . He fell to a catch in the deep for 57off the experienced left-arm spin of Andy Isaacs .

Kirk Proto joined Trowbridge and chanced his arm to good effect taking the score to 149 when Trowbridge fell LBW to Ed Lamb for 58 . Nathan Cooper took up the challenge and kept the run-rate up as he and Proto shared a partnership of 69 before Proto was well caught by Matthews at mid-wicket for 48 to the off-spin of Owain Jones .

Hill then lost wickets as they chased quick runs but declared on 250 from 50 overs . Lamb took 3 -56 and Jones 3-53 .

Opening bowlers Dan Strange and George Willett needed to bowl with discipline and did just that as Willett removed the dangerous Jones for just 8 well caught by Dan Yates. Strange reduced Steyning to 55 for 3 bowling Ryan Matthews (12) and having Oliver Cooper caught by Cooper .

When Jack Simpson caught and bowled Stephen Chimhamhiwa who drilled the ball back at him Hill sensed victory as Steyning were reduced to 60-4 . However young Toby Glover joined skipper David Kennett and batted fluently in a partnership of 80 before falling caught and bowled again to Simpson for a positive 42 . Gary Hunt quickly followed , when given out LBW to Simpson and Steyning , although up with the required run-rate were 142-6 . Off-spinner Yates toiled away but could not unsettle Kennett and Ed Lamb . Both batted well and punished some poor bowling as Hill struggled to shut the door . Late hope was restored as Simpson ( 4-61) trapped Kennett for an excellent 66 but Lamb (61)and Luke Chapman (15) saw Steyning home effortlessly with 2 overs to spare.

An excellent game with over 500 runs scored with Steyning deserved winners.
