The visitors still had an outside chance of gaining promotion for themselves. Having won the toss, Bognor asked the home side to bat first and Harry Towler and James Whybrow opened the Ansty innings.

The wicket was slow but the pair added 82 for the first wicket when Towler was caught, attempting a pull shot, off the bowling of Joshua Broad for 43.

Another wicket fell at 88 but a stand of 24 developed between Whybrow and Will Wright that ended, just after the drinks break, with Wright being bowled by Broad for 12. Two wickets fell with the score on 125 and another at 129 to see the home side 6 wickets down.

Whybrow had hit 57 in a patient knock. Richard Smith (14) and Sam Adams (13) steadied the batting but were both out LBW and the Ansty innings subsided to 156 all out.

Joshua Broad finished with 4-51 with 3 wickets each for Graham Bush and Joe Ashmore.

Bognor’s reply started badly losing Ryan Maskell for 3 with the score on 5, bowled by Sam Adams. Another 20 was added by Mikey Harris and Elliott Clarke who was caught by Adams off the bowling of Sam Palser for 12.

There followed a stand of 37 by Harris and Max Ashmore who was stumped by Ben Towler for 15.

Harris fell for 39 with the score on 101 and at this point the match looked to be Bognor’s. Skipper Luke Seward had struck 21 runs when he was joined by Jim Fallick and this pair added 40 to see the visitors to 141-5. Fallick scored 17 and with Seward seemingly unworried by the bowling, the Ansty faithful who were watching could not believe what happened next.

With another run added Louis Paul was caught behind by Ben Towler off Glenn Anson for a duck followed by Charlie Laforet bowled by Anson for 1 run. Graham Bush hit his first ball for 4 but was then very well caught by Leo Anderson two balls later off Anson. Anderson then took the ball and had the remaining two batsmen well caught by Harry Towler to see Ansty home by 7 runs.

Skipper Seward had seen his team blown away with 6 wickets falling for 8 runs and ended 43 not out. Anson took 5-31 with two wickets each for Adams and Anderson.
