Bowling first Hill took the early initiative with 4 early wickets, Hugh Warmisham bowling Raza Ali, Ian Simpson removing Chris Plaister and Jack Groves and new overseas spinner Daniel Yates trapping Clayton Caltsounis lbw for just 2 leaving Ifield 29-4.

Delray Rawlins, Ifield’s 16 year old Bermudan rescued them in partnership with Greg Barton as the two added 40 for the 5th wicket, Barton scoring 19 in 26 balls and Rawlins 37 in just 34 balls, making batting look easy where everyone else struggled.

When he departed caught behind to a very smart catch by Tom Mackenzie off the bowling of Jack Simpson Ifield were well placed at 90-6. Some late runs from Daniel Groves helped Ifield to 117-7 from their allotted 20 overs. Probably a good score on an early May pitch and a soft outfield. For Burgess Hill Warmisham was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1-5 from 4 overs. I. Simpson, J. Simpson and Yates all chipped in with 2 wickets each.

In response Hill never got going. 18-0 was as good as it got on a slow wicket. Ifield using three spinners to good effect to open up the innings and only Karl Boffey found runs, scoring 20. Dan Yates was the only other batsmen to score double figures as Hill collapsed to 69 all out. Caltsounis finishing with 3-3 from 2 overs, Graeme Dean 2-9 and Russel Jacob 2-8.

Ifield’s reward is a trip to Preston Nomads in the 2nd round. For Hill they are free to concentrate on league matters.
