Nomads skipper Jeremy Green won the toss and elected to bowl on a pitch that had got partially wet after Friday night’s torrential downpour.

Batting was always going to be difficult and Cuckfield struggled against the seam bowling attack of Antiguan Carl Simon and Sussex’s Matt Hobden.

Tom Cummins looked assured again for Cuckfield as Sear and Altendorf departed for single figures. Cummins smashed Hobden for 4 fours, but went for one shot too many as he was caught off Hobden for 28, leaving Cuckfield in trouble at 46 for 3 after 13 overs. Stand-in skipper Nick Beard and Chris Mole then looked to stabilise the innings in the highest partnership of the match.

But with their tally on 31 Mole (17) was adjudged lbw off the change bowling of Kashif Ibrahim.

Beard, Oates and Campopiano followed quickly after with only 1 run added to the score. At 78 for 7, a lower order resistance was mounted as Patterson (29) top scored in a partnership of 24 with Ben Candfield taking Cuckfield to 118 all out after 41 overs, probably 20-30 below par given the conditions.

Simon finished with 5/50, Ibrahim 3/27 and Hobden 2/33.

The Nomads openers did not find batting much easier as Jamie Hutchings removed the top 3 leaving the visitors 28 for 3 after just 8 overs.

While wickets fell regularly, Nomads had found an innings anchor in their number 4, Jamie Wilkes-Green who carried his bat for 58 steering Nomads to victory 7 wickets down. Hutchings finished with 4/38 and Beard 2/36.

Cuckfield travel to Hastings next week who are yet to win a game in the Sussex League.
