Spinner Westgate takes six of the best for Keymer and Hasssocks

Keymer and Hassocks CC 1st XI travelled the short journey to Plumpton & East Chiltington CC on Saturday, and opened their account in the East Sussex Cricket League Division 1 with a victory.

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat first KHCC got off to a rocky start losing a wicket in the second over. However contributions from Jacob Montgomery (24) and Joe Isted (59) allowed the visitors to post a competitive total of 162 all out.

In reply wickets fell regularly for Plumpton & East Chiltongton with youngster Ronan Pithie picking up 2 wickets early on. As the innings continued Plumpton had no response to spin bowler Andrew Westgate who twirled KHCC to victory with figures of 6-51, Plumpton finally being dismissed for 109.

In the reverse fixture at Adastra Park, KHCC 2nd XI and Plumpton 2nd XI couldn’t force a result with the match ending in a draw. Batting first KHCC managed to post a good total of 177-8, Simon McNiff staring with a determined 50. However KHCC were not able to dismiss the visitors as overs ran out with Plumpton on 156-8, wickets being shared around the bowlers but a notable performance on his club debut for Nathan Goodby with 3-37.

KHCC 3’s stated their league season with a thumping victory at home to Lingfield CC 5th XI. Bowling first, KHCC managed to dismiss the visitors for 119 with wickets being shared around the bowling attack. Notable bowling performances were youngster Olly Munt with 2-18 and Graham Dillon with 2-2. Chasing the total young opener Michael Dillon was unfortunate to fall for a duck however opener Ross Watkins (67*) and Paul Duplock (47*) made short work of the chase with KHCC winning by 9 wickets.
