T20 BLAST: Hampshire v Sussex

Luke Wright performed heroics with the bat - but his unbeaten 116 was not enough to save Sussex from defeat in a thriller against neighbours Hampshire.

Tuesday’s victory over Glamorgan at Hove had kept alive the Sharks’ hopes of progressing to the last eight of the competition.

But they needed to follow that up with a win away to out-of-form Hampshire.

The hosts batted first and got over their recent batting frailties by amassing 177 for three, led by Michael Carberry’s unbeaten 87.

Sussex got off to a superb start in their reply with Chris Nash and Wright well ahead of the run rate - but once Nash was out for 28 with the score on 69, Wright couldn’t find anyone elese to stick around long enough to support.

The England man carried on hitting boundaries regularly but no other batsman made double figures as Danny Briggs took four for 28.

Wright was still there as Sussex needed 17 off the last over but Chris Wood kept it fairly tight and Hampshire won by six runs.

It means Sussex can’t qualify for the last eight from a group in which Essex, Surrey and Hampshire have already secured their progress.
