Eight pairings compete in inaugural Parent Child Tournament at Cuckfield

The inaugural Parent Child Tournament was held at Cuckfield Tennis Club on Sunday, a bright, sunny afternoon with 8 pairings competing for the new silverware.

The atmosphere proved to be as sparkling as the tennis with a mixed age range from 7 to 60+. All contributed to some memorable rallies with a handicapping system helping to balance the mix of ages to produce a level playing field. It was great to see so many parents being chastised, shoulders down they apologised profusely to their offspring and promised to try harder!!

The quality of play and sportsmanship was remarked upon by all the spectators so a big well done to all.

The worthy winners were Richard and Sebastian Hallett closely following by Rob and Daniel Mitchell with the tenacious Jeremy and Ben Eustace just one point further back. The other players were three mother and son pairs, Audrey and Ted Thomson, Sam and Charlie Rutter and Alison and Alfie Carrington. Scott Goldfinch ‘borrowed’ Martin Sambrook for the day and Jennifer Eustace played with mum Jess.

Cuckfield are strongly backing the development of the juniors in particular with coaching available throughout the year. We welcome new members of all standards and ages so please come down and give it a go.

There is always next year to challenge the Halletts for the cup so plenty of time to practise.
