Chris Presland will be the manager of the newly formed side and Ben Abbott will be his assistant.

The under-18 side will play in the SCFL youth division in 2020-21.

Both men have previously played for the club.

Presland has experience of coaching and management of under-18 and adult sides at a number of local clubs.

The side will form an integral part of the first team set-up following the club’s decision to scrap their reserve team.

CDG said they were impressed by the football philosophy, vision and enthusiasm displayed by Presland and Abbott which they believe will lead to the under-18s making a really positive impact.

As reported in the Observer last week, it’s after a gap of several years that Crawley Down Gatwick say they are a position to run an under-18 team once more.

The team will be based on their 2019-20 under-16 side with the addition of some new players.

Because they are not running reserves or under-23s it is likely opportunities will arise for young players to play senior football.
