Two goals by Ben Pope could not prevent defeat for Burgess HIll at Brightlingsea Regent.
The Hillians went ahead through Pope on 20 minutes before Josh Gould and Aaron Condon put Regent 2-1 by the hour mark. It was 3-1 when Condon got his second.
Pope gave Hill late hope with his second in the 90th minute but there was not enough time to find an equaliser and the men from the Green Elephants Stadium headed home still in the relegation zone - second from bottom with 15 points.
Hillians are at home to Carshalton next Saturday.
Haywards Heath are up to sixth in the Bostik south east after a superb 4-1 win at Greenwich Borough.
Joshua Spinks, Andrew Dalhouse, Callum Saunders and Nathan Cooper were the scorers, with Heath powering on to victory after Greenwich had cancelled out Spinks' goal to make it 1-1 at the break.
In division one of the SCFL, St Francis were hammered 8-0 at Littlehampton. Jack Langford scored four, Darren Boswell two, with a David Borges strike and an own goal completing the rout.
