Burgess Hill boss Chapman signs extended contract

Chapman took the helm at Burgess Hill at the beginning of season 2012/13, after the club had narrowly avoided relegation the previous season. He guided the club to an 8th place finish in his first year, and in the following season just missed a play-off spot after a late equalizer at Sittingbourne. This season, he has piloted Burgess Hill Town to the top of Ryman League One (South) with a great opportunity of securing promotion to the Premier League.

As well as running the first team, Chapman also has responsibility for all football matters at the club in his role as Director of Football Operations, overseeing the progress of the U21 and U18 teams and the Development Squad for younger players.

Chapman’s playing career as a professional included 281 games for Brighton & Hove Albion, where he excelled as a formidable left back and became a fan’s favourite. He went on to play for Gillingham before injury sadly cut short his playing career.

Consistency of personnel in the squad has been an important part in our success this year, and I want to ensure that consistency is reflected in the coaching and backroom staff. Ian has been a great example as both a man- manager and football strategist, and I am happy to place the club’s football future in his hands.”

Speaking after the Redhill game on Tuesday, Chapman said “I’m delighted to continue my role with Burgess Hill Town. I think we have been developing and improving with every game, and the youth system we have introduced has already paid spectacular dividends. I know I have the backing of the Chairman to keep moving the club in the right direction, which is an important factor for me.”
