Burgess Hill Town to proritise discipline over 'lovely football' as they head to Brightlingsea

Burgess Hill Town boss Simon Wormull is putting beautiful football on the back-burner as he looks to get something out of their trip to Brightlingsea Regent in the Bostik Premier on Saturday.

The Rs sit second-from-bottom in the division having taken 13 points from 15 games, and have won only one game in five in all competitions.

The Hillians, meanwhile, have seen signs of progress under Wormull as they moved out of the relegation places with a 3-0 home win over Merstham two Saturdays ago.

I’m not looking for it to be lovely football and flowing and playing really lovely stuff.

“I don’t think it’s going to be conducive to that. What I’m looking for is a cleansheet and a disciplined performance.

“I want to see us go away to Brightlingsea and get a point and be stubborn. When you’re down there you have to work even harder and they’re going to be doing that as the home team.”

Hill will have to undertake a journey to Essex that will take around two-and-a-quarter hours on Saturday and Wormull believes that his side must show character in overcoming these added non-footballing problems.

He added: “It’s a long journey to play on not a great pitch and the weather is not looking good for that day so these are things that we’ve got to deal with.

“This is the character that I want to see now from the players. It just gets us back on that road again going into the Christmas period where we play all the Sussex derbies.”

Despite the Rs languishing near the foot of the table, Wormull feels that the difficult nature of the Bostik Premier means that no result in the league is a given.

He said: “I don’t think there are any easy games in this league. Whether you are in-form or out-of-form.

“You look at Tonbridge Angels and they’ve taken a couple of batterings, and Enfield have taken a few batterings in the last couple of weeks but that’s the nature of this league.

“We have to give the upmost respect to Brightlingsea and take them on with a disciplined and hard-working performance.”
