Burgess Hill Town FC have made their third signing of the summer after agreeing terms with the highly regarded striker Chris Smith.

The striker finished last season as joint top scorer of Ryman South with 34 league goals for South Park FC and was also named in the Ryman South Team of the Year, which the Hillians had five players in.

Smith follows the captures of Josh Jones and Tommy Fraser and manager Ian Chapman was delighted to get the forward. “I’m delighted to sign Chris who banged in a lot of goals for South Park last season - he is a great addition to our squad which is shaping up nicely.”

“He is the type of player we want to bring to Burgess Hill Town FC. Like Tommy and Josh who have joined us this summer, he had plenty of financially better offers but chose to join us as he liked what we are doing and wanted to be a part of it.”

Smith had been with South Park for the last eight years having joined at 16 and has been prolific throughout their rise to the Ryman League being top scorer at Whitehall Lane for the last 5 years. He said at the end of the season that he wanted to step up to the Ryman Premier and joins the Hillians for their first season at Step 3 of the non-league pyramid.

Chapman added that he is also looking at 3 or 4 other players who are currently trialling with the Hillians.

Defender Will Miles goes in for a minor groin operation this Thursday and should return to training for the end of pre-season.
