Chapman demands consistency from his players

Chapman, speaking on Tuesday, said “obviously we are all very disappointed with the result and performance at YM. In saying that we had at least four good chances at 0-0 and I would have expected us to put two of them away”.

“On the flip side we again conceded a couple of real poor goals and we didn’t put them under enough pressure over the ninety minutes. At the moment we are really struggling for consistency, we put in a few decent performances then put in a real stinker. Worthing away, Enfield Town away, Harrow Borough at home, and Saturday at Horsham YMCA are all unacceptable and for us to move on we need to stamp out these below par performances.”

Hillians will be looking to bounce back on Saturday when they host Dulwich Hamlet at the Green Elephants Stadium (3pm kick off).

“Saturday see’s us face Dulwich Hamlet who are one of this seasons more fancied sides for promotion in the Ryman Premier. They are a big non-league club and we will have to be right up for it to get anything out of the game”.

Joe Keehan and Phil Johnson are both closing in on returns after being ruled out with injuries over the last few weeks.

Both players trained on Tuesday evening, providing there’s no reaction, Keehan should be available for Saturday. The game is likely to come too soon for Johnson.

Skipper Darren Budd who limped off against Horsham YMCA didn’t train, but is expected to train on Thursday and is rated at 50/50 for the Dulwich match. Following the Dulwich game the Hillians are again at home when Lewes visit on Wednesday evening (23rd September - 7:30pm) in an all Sussex clash.

Chapman is actively looking to bolster his squad “I am looking to bring in a couple of players over the next few weeks. We must be patient and get the right kind of people. We are always looking to improve the squad, and in the league we are in at the moment, we need players who are more consistent and have a better understanding of this league – but at the same time they must also fit into our budget”.

Graham Martin, who was yet to feature this season for the Hillians front side, has moved to Ryman South side Peacehaven & Telscombe in order to get some games.

The next round of the Robert Dyas League Cup will see Hillians travel to Ryman South new boys Dorking Wanderers. The game has been scheduled for Tuesday 6th October.

Tonight (Thursday – 7:30pm) Hill’s Under 21 side, managed by Paul Armstrong, are in action at home when they entertain Whyteleafe.
