Chelsea loanee Beeney wanted to work with Dermot Drummy again

New loan signing Mitchell Beeney revealed having worked worked with head coach Dermot Drummy before was a key factor in him deciding to come to Crawley.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper knows what it is like to play for him, having done so as a youth player at Chelsea.

Beeney said: “Chelsea wanted me to do it (go out on loan) and I had worked with Dermot before and know him - he gave me my debut at under-21 level at the age of under-15.

“I had several options from other clubs, but knowing his style and how he want to play was important to me.

“Also, I live in Crawley Down and have a young daughter aged eight months and my girlfriend her parents and my parents are all nearby.

“I am only ten minutes away so coming here is better than driving three or four hours a day.

“Dermot likes to play good attacking football from the back through the midfield.

“He’s very hands-on as a former player which is ideal in management. He will show you himself what he wants you to do.

“I hope to have a lot of good success at Crawley. We have an exciting cup game coming up against Wolves and a good opening league game (against Wycombe).

“I hope to have a good six months at Crawley and if the club want me, to stay on longer.

“I hope to keep as many clean sheets as possible and help the team push up the league and finish higher than they did last season, and even try to get promotion.”

Beeney is happy to battle it out with Crawley’s two other keepers Yusuf Mersin and player/coach Glenn Morris to wear the keeper’s shirt.

He said: “All because I know and like Dermot, doesn’t mean I will be his No.1 straight away.

“I’m looking forward to fighting for my place - If I do start the first game in goal, I hope to do my best to keep my place.”
