COUNTY LEAGUE MIDWEEK ROUND-UP: Hassocks unbeaten run comes to an end at Selsey

Hassocks’ unbeaten run since the enforced winter break came to an end as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat away at Selsey on Tuesday night.

It was a weary Robins side who made the journey to the High Street Ground, their longest to the west of the county for the season coming just three days after their furthest in the opposite direction to Rye United on Saturday.

There they showed great steely determination to turn a 1-0 deficit at the break into a 4-1 victory but there was to be no such repeat of those heroics this time around.

The Blues took a first half lead through Graham Bush when the striker netted on 21 minutes.

Phil Gault continued his red hot streak in front of goal with the equaliser five minutes after the restart for his ninth in five games to move him onto 21 in the league for the season at the top of the County One scoring charts.

It was another in form striker who had the final say in the match however, Selsey’s Rob Wimble scoring the winner for the home side with just ten minutes left on the clock.

Other scores:

St Francis beat Lingfield 5-2 away thanks to goals from Jamie Weston (2), Nathan Millroy and Brandon Fugl (2)/
