County Youth league title is back at Hassocks

The Sussex County Youth League Central Division title is back at the Beacon for the first time since 2006 as Nigel Pearce’s Hassocks side capped a memorable campaign by lifting the silverware with a 2-0 victory over Lancing.

Top goal scorer Jake Booth netted his 26th of the season with Todd Hafuek also on target as the young Robins saw off the side that finished runners up to them at Culver Road on Sunday.

The title had already been confirmed as being theirs four days previously as a result of Lancing’s failure to beat Steyning Town.

This result rounded things off nicely for Hassocks however as they kept a tenth clean sheet of the season.

That meant they conceded just 11 goals in 20 league games on their way to the being crowned champions, losing just once all season.

It’s not just the youth team who have benefitted either, with Aaron Czech, George Brown, Dan Stokes, Liam Benson, Max Collins, Josh Green, Booth and Hafuek all tasting first team football.

That fact is particularly pleasing to all those involved at the Beacon with the much-heralded production line from youth to senior football seemingly grinding to a halt in recent years.

The hardwork of defending the title in 2014/15 is already well underway with Pearce holding trials for next seasons squad at Adastra Park on the 29th May and the 3rd, 5th and 10th of June.

They get underway at 6.15pm and any potential players who wish to attend are welcome to do so.
