Crawley Town boss John Yems after Bolton victory - 'We go out every week and set up to get six points'

George Francomb scored the winner in the 61st minute, his fourth goal of this League Two campaign, already equalling his best goal scoring seasons with AFC Wimbledon in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons.

Yems was pleased with the result against a resilient Bolton side: “Very tough game as we knew it would be, rode our luck at times, but I think we worked hard, did all the right things. You pick the paper up tomorrow and it says we’ve won 1-0. Let’s have a few more of them and I’ll be happy!”

Crawley have picked up maximum points from their travels to Forest Green and Bolton, and Yems claims he was confident his team would be capable of doing so: “We go out every week and set up to get six points.

"If you’re going here with any fear of anyone you’re not going to get anything, but that’s called a winning mentality and that reflects onto the lads. If we aren’t convinced we’re going to win games what are we in it for?

"You’d be cheating the fans and cheating everyone. The opposite side of that is when we get beaten you know we’re going to get beaten honestly. Let’s hope we don’t get beaten too often. We’re confident of taking points off everybody, we’ve got to be.”

Francomb’s winner was a reflection of the football Crawley have been playing this season, and Yems believes his side’s work ethic paid off today: “Second half we were under the cosh, but they’re at home and they’re still a big club, these, you can see from some of the players here.

"I’m not going on about budgets, but when you look at what they’ve got in their squad and we all know the certain players they’ve got, and you look at our squad, would I swap any of them? No, our lads, 110%, me and Lee (Bradbury) are on the touchline going absolutely mad but it’s to keep everybody going. Half of it’s to keep people interested, we have to, because there’s no one here to bring the atmosphere so we have to generate that.”

Crawley had to dig deep to see out the away win, as they had to withstand stern Bolton pressure, and Yems says it’s pleasing to see his side defend so well: “It pleases me when people say we can’t defend, then we can’t score. I know from top to bottom, everybody wants to win for Crawley, and everybody wants to go as high as they can for the football club and themselves.

"Yes they will throw their selves on the line, if they didn’t they wouldn’t be in the side. And we’ve got players now that make sure they throw their selves on the line. We’ve got loads and loads of work to do, and we will keep doing it. We are looking to bring a few more in in the transfer window, so it’s onwards and upwards, we’re still working within our budget, it’s just good to be around so make the most of it”.

Crawley’s next game will be the biggest of their season yet, as they welcome Leeds United to the People’s Pension Stadium, and Yems can’t wait for the occasion: “I’m looking forward to it 150 million percent. We have got a lot to lose, but careers are made for players and games like that. Saturday we’re playing a Premier League side, what a way to test ourselves.

"It’s a free punch as far as I’m concerned, but do we want to be in the hat next week? Of course we do, we’re not going out to lose, we’re going out to win, and give them a good game of football. We’ll enjoy it, how can you not enjoy playing Leeds United at our ground? It’s all part and parcel of it and if the lads and club can’t enjoy it we shouldn’t be in football.”
