Crawley Town boss Yates admits: '˜We lacked composure and quality'

Disappointed Crawley Town manager Mark Yates admitted his side weren't good enough as they lost to second to bottom side Yeovil for the second time this season.

He revealed his ultra-defensive 5-2-3 formation didn’t work, forcing a change in the second half.

Yates also apologised to the 139 supporters who made the trip to Somerset for Reds’ lack of quality and fight.

He said: “We tried to set up a bit differently, we changed it, it didn’t work as well as we wanted.

“The first half they had one chance I think, we had the best couple of chances.

“The second half we couldn’t get out of our half. We looked liked we had played extra-time on Tuesday night (against Carlisle in the FA Cup).

“The second half we didn’t deal with the conditions, we didn’t deal with one long ball. First goal’s poor on our part. Jon’s (Ashton) headed a ball which was probably not his to head, scored and it changed the game.

“We lacked composure and quality. We got Lewis and Roarie in a couple of times and just didn’t do anything with it.

“I am really disappointed for the supporters who made the journey, to lose.

“Yeovil are fighting for their lives and so are we but we don’t want to get dragged into it and we won’t.

“You’ve just got to roll your sleeves up at places like this where teams are scrapping for their lives at both ends of the table.

“Our game management was poor. We didn’t give it a real go after we scored. We didn’t look like we could kick the ball more than 30 yards.

“We know it wasn’t good enough. It was just another bad day on the road. We have to get it out of our system on the training ground on Monday morning.”
