This is the time of year club’s announce who is staying and going - and some club’s have already announced their list. But the Reds have faced some criticism for naming their’s yet - but there is a reason.

He said: “Just to give bit an insight, there has been a bit of a grey area in the retained list and I flagged this with the EFL. I have major concerns there’s a massive grey area. If other clubs have not identified that is their problem. If a club signs Daffy Duck, doesn’t mean I have to. I don’t have to follow what they do.

“I need to follow what is right for this football club. And I have spotted the problem and that problem, if I know what I think is right, can save the club around £30-£40,000.

“I don’t want to go more into detail because I have the understand what the ground is. The EFL have given clubs up to June 24. If other clubs have sorted this out in certain ways, that’s their ship and every ship is different. The way the EFL works is you are in a sea, there are 24 ships and everyone has to compete.

“Now the drivers of the ships, the methods you use and the routes you take are all different. Everyone has their unique approach but I believe there’s a problem there and I am trying to see if I can navigate through that problem successfully.

People who want to have a problem with the retained list can keep having a problem that’s fine, but it’s about the club’s best interests and that’s all I am looking at.”
