Crawley Town coaches to leave club

Crawley Town Football Club have confirmed that First Team Assistant Head Coach Edu Rubio and First Team Coach Jon Meeney will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts.​

Rubio and Meeney both joined the club under former Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi at the start of the 2019/20 campaign and played key roles in the previous season, including the historic Carabao Cup victories over Norwich City and Stoke City.

Speaking on his time at the club, Rubio said: “It’s been a great privilege to work for this football club for an entire season.

“I leave with great friends who I consider family - all the staff, players and supporters. I felt very supported by the club and I would like to thank and show my appreciation to everyone involved.

"During this past season, I’ve had the opportunity to live locally and get involved a number of community projects, charities and mingle with our fans and supporters, as well as our success in the league and cup, that’s probably the highlight from the past season - getting to know the locals and getting to now the Crawley community. Massive thanks to the all of our supporters, players and staff of this great club, who I wish the very best to in the days to come.”

Having moved onto pastures new, Meeney said: “I’d like to thank everyone associated at the club for being so welcoming over the last season. It’s a been a great year personally coaching in League 2 & working under two different managers in Gaby & John, who have varied approaches.The group of players at the club have potential to push on next season & I wish them every success.”

Head Coach John Yems said: “I’d like to thank both Edu and Jon for their efforts over the course of the last season. Their efforts haven’t gone amiss and I wish them all the best in the future.”
