On Friday Edwards, 23, the club’s player of the year, was sold to League One club Peterborough United for a six-figure sum.

Matt Harrold is the only striker on Reds’ books with ten days to go before their opening match in their pre-season campaign.

The Reds boss reckons they may stand a better chance of getting their man with an increased offer.

Drummy said: “I will have to speak to the president (Ziya Eren) on it and I am sure once the money comes through in two payments we’ll get some money to add to the squad. The first comes in pretty soon.

“It can allow us to go up a notch. If we can get in the market so we can get a marquee signing, then we will do that - it gives us more scope.

“Certainly goalscorers cost money. If we have to add a few extra pounds to get the guy then I think now we can.

“We have got trials tonight (Wednesday) where we are bringing in players from around the country and we must see what that brings.”

Drummy is still in talks with an undisclosed striker target about joining Crawley.

He said: “We are waiting for the moment where we can go and get him. We are waiting for the OK from the player and the OK from the club.

“Once the club acts, we can act. If the money has increased (due to the sale of Gwion Edwards), we can put in a bigger bid.”
